WWE backstage: The Rock vs CM Punk

WrestleMania XXVIII

The match between The Rock and CM Punk was practised before the event and the result of the match was kept highly confidential.

A curtain was put around the ring so that no one could see the end result.

The actual match ended with Punk pinned down after receiving The People’s Elbow. Punk had said that the people don’t matter and the Rock said they do.

Now that The Rock is again the WWE champion, he’ll get a lot of publicity for upcoming movies, talks about Wrestlemania and more.

The Rock returned to WWE after a long time out making movies and has a few releases coming up this year. One can expect a lot of promotion from the current champ in WWE.

Cena on CM Punk-Rock match

WrestleMania XXVIII

In an interview with AZCentral.com, he said, “CM Punk has been the champion for quite a long time now, but I know from my past instances with Dwayne Johnson that he’s very difficult to beat.”

Cena also revealed that grudges carry over outside of the ring “a lot more than people would think.”

CM Punk on his surgically repaired knee

In his latest interview to MMAfighting.com for Ariel Helwani, CM Punk spoke about his surgically repaired knee and what he felt about it.

According to him, his decision to return to the ring so early was a bad one as his knee is still quite uncomfortable. He said he would love some time off from his hectic schedule, but WrestleMania meant things were planned otherwise.

During the interview, Punk showed a lot of respect for Rock and this was an aspect of his interview that I loved most. Also, when asked if he thinks he was better than The Rock, Punk replied ”If I’m doing this, I have to believe I’m better. I can’t go in the ring and think, wow this guy is awesome, he’s better than me”

The Rock vs CM Punk Royal Rumble promo

What Happened After Raw Went Off the Air

The Rock stayed in ring. C.M. Punk came back out saying he wasn't finished talking. Rock gave Punk three more Rock Bottoms.

Rock talked how he used to live in the Tampa area and trained here, which is why he picked Tampa to make his latest return.

Rock hit Punk with the People's Elbow. Since he didn't have an elbow pad, he took off his shirt and threw it to the crowd.

CM Punk Reportedly Medically Cleared To Compete On This Monday’s Raw

The official WWE website announced Wednesday that WWE Champion CM Punk has been medically cleared to defend his title against Ryback in a TLC Match on this Monday’s Raw, according to sources.

The match had originally been scheduled for the WWE TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs pay-per-view, but immediate knee surgery on December 4 postponed that contest until he had fully recuperated.

WWE Still Planning on Punk vs. Ryback

WWE has confirmed that the Ryback vs. CM Punk WWE Title match will still be taking place, likely on an upcoming episode of RAW since Punk’s next pay-per-view match will be against The Rock at the Royal Rumble.

Punk is expected to be ready for the New Year’s Eve edition of RAW, which will be taped a few days earlier in Washington, DC. Still, WWE may not put Ryback vs. Punk on that show because it’s guaranteed to do a low rating.

The match may take place on the January 7th RAW, which goes head-to-head with the BCS Championship game. The January 14th RAW is possible but that may be too close to the Royal Rumble for Ryback to get his title shot. Either way, the match is scheduled to take place soon

Why CM Punk Isn't Wrestling At WWE's TLC PPV

After WWE Champion CM Punk was released from the hospital late Tuesday evening, he was telling people close to him that he felt great after the surgery.

Punk actually called people in WWE and told them he would be able to work the TLC pay-per-view against Ryback.

Officials felt that it would be best for Punk to not work TLC. They wanted him to sit the pay-per-view out and heal so they're not putting the bigger upcoming matches in jeopardy like his Royal Rumble match with The Rock and whatever he does leading up to WrestleMania 29.

Backstage News On CM Punk's Injury & Return

The unofficial estimate from a few people close to CM Punk is that he will be out of action for around three weeks but a more solid time frame is expected to be released within a few days.

Punk's recuperation time will depend on how well he progresses while rehabbing the knee that was operated on. As noted, Punk's WWE Title match against The Rock at the Royal Rumble is not in jeopardy.

Punk's knee problem had been noticeable by some in recent matches but for the most part he worked through it without any outward signs of a problem. In the storylines, WWE blamed the injury on Ryback putting Punk through the table at Monday's RAW.
